Event Overview

Background Information

The seminar will introduce the concepts and requirements for the setting up of corporate structures under Maltese law and will analyse the distinction between the various types of corporate entities available, with particular focus on private and public limited liability companies, partnerships and trusts. The fundamental principles of separate legal personality and corporate governance will also be discussed and will conclude by analysing the procedures for dissolution of corporate structures and practical implications and instances of when company recovery procedures may be instituted in terms of Maltese law.

Objectives of this session 

To provide the audience with an understanding of the various corporate structures which are available under Maltese law and how these structures operate.

Topics on the agenda

Private and public limited liability companies, partnerships and trusts and comparative between these structures. Principles of separate legal personality and corporate governance when applied to various corporate structures and the manner in which these corporate structures may be dissolved and possibilities of company recovery procedures.

Speakers
  • Dr Christina Scicluna
    Dr. Christina Scicluna started her legal career with one of the Big Four firms specialising in personal tax compliance and personal tax advisory services and has advised a number of high net worth individuals on matters relating to taxation and immigration. Christina also advises a variety of multinational clients on international corporate structures, including the setting up of corporate entities in Malta for both local and foreign investment and has been involved in a number of mergers and acquisitions. Christina has been active in the fintech industry with a focus on blockchain and cryptocurrency since June 2017 and has been assisting a number of international clients on regulatory matters relating to blockchain, virtual financial assets and distributed ledger technology projects.
