Kenneth Farrugia joined Bank of Valletta plc (BOV), Malta's largest banking group, in 1985 and has since occupied various positions within the Bank. Kenneth currently holds the post of Chief Business Development Officer at Bank of Valletta plc and sits on the Group's Management Board. Kenneth is amongst others responsible for the improvement of the Bank’s market position, as well as the achievement of financial growth and long-term strategic business goals. Kenneth is also the Chairman of FinanceMalta, Malta's national promotional body for financial services, and also serves as Chairman of the Malta Funds Industry Association. He is also the Chairman of Malita Investments plc which is listed on the Malta Stock Exchange. Kenneth is married to Kathleen and has two children.

James Bonello started his banking career with Barclays Bank in Malta in 1965, and has held various senior management positions in banking, including Head of Commercial Banking at HSBC Bank Malta, and also as Executive Director on the bank’s Board.  Between 1989 and 1993, he was seconded to the Malta International Business Authority (now the Malta Financial Services Authority) where he served as Chief Executive. In 2004, he retired from HSBC and took over as Secretary General of the Malta Bankers’ Association, which position he still holds.

Dr. Matthew Bianchi is a partner at GANADO Advocates and heads the law firm’s Insurance & Pensions team.

He regularly advises re/insurance companies, insurance managers, captives, protected cell companies (PCCs) and insurance intermediaries. Matthew is also the Secretary General of the Malta Association of Insurance Brokers and the Malta Insurance Managers Association.


Juanita Bencini heads the Risk Consulting team in KPMG Malta’s advisory practice.

Her practice area largely centres around financial services entities where she provides ongoing regulatory advice on changes to the regulatory regime including Basel III and CRD IV for banks, and Solvency II.  Juanita is also head of Risk Consulting for KPMG’s Islands Group the sub-region with the KPMG EMA region.  She is President of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners and also heads the AML sub-committee of both the IFSP and the Malta Institute of Accountants.

Dr Annalise Micallef is a partner at Micallef & Associates, a firm of notaries and estate planners.

Having pursued a law degree and specialised with a Masters in Financial Services at the University of Malta, Dr Micallef practises as a notary public while being actively involved in the regulation of the notarial profession as Vice-President of the Maltese Notarial Council. Her main areas concern estate planning, most notably trusts and foundations. She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practioners (STEP) Malta Executive Committee, and of the STEP EU Committee which deals with issues concerning different EU initiatives. Dr Micallef currently sits on the Executive Council of the Council of the Notariats of the European Union (CNUE).

John Huber is Managing Consultant at John Huber & Associates, a Maltese advisory firm catering for tax services with special focus on tax issues related to relocating to Malta. He served as adviser to Government and a technical reference point on various residence programmes.  He also serves as a non-executive Director on a number of Maltese companies.

John has held board level positions and leadership roles at Eurochambres, the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, the Malta Business Bureau, the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development, EU Commission Advisory Committees, Cedefop and the Malta Community Chest Fund.


Dr. Andre Borg- Borg & Associates Advocates

Dr André Borg is a lawyer by profession, partner at Borg & Associates Advocates, an all-purpose law firm.

André was employed by Middlesea Group until taking on a new role at International Insurance Management Services Ltd being seconded to Italy in challenging times at Progress Assicurazioni S.p.A's legal & anti-fraud office, where he moved on to head the International and Major Claims unit. In Italy, he benefited from a scholarship in Business Entrepreneurship at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milano. André also worked for the EU Civil Service at the European Parliament as well as the Court of Justice of the EU in Luxembourg. Currently, Dr Borg serves on a number of Boards and holds directorships in local FSPs, LTDs and charitable foundations.

Giselle Borg Olivier is Marketing Executive and Secretary to the Board at FinanceMalta.

Giselle graduated in Integrated Marketing Communications from the University of Malta and held marketing roles in diverse industries including language and travel, IT software, and financial services. She has been at FinanceMalta since 2012 where she heads the digital marketing sector and is also a freelance writer and proofreader.
